Issues caused by COVID-19

Recently there has been a outbreak of a deadly virus. This virus has resulted in the cancellation of schools, businesses, and movies. This will prevent us from reshooting and re-editing our film. This has also led to some block busters getting postponed as well. Movies like ‘Mulan’ and ‘Fast and Furious 9’ have been postponed. While this may result in our movie being a little below the quality we would’ve wanted, we will have to turn in what we have. In the case of these major movies, the shooting has been finished already. They will need to postpone the distribution of the movie for business reasons. We aren’t getting back to school until at least the 15th. We don’t really know at this point. However if we do get back the 15th, and the due date doesn’t get postponed then the movie and CCR is due the day we get back. We are going to have to edit this as well as we can with what we have. That will all be up to Kyle however. This is because we are advised to not leave our houses unless it’s necessary. So hopefully he can get something good together. In the mean time we will study for our Cambridge exam. We will also discuss how to make the movie better over calls. In the other movies, they will do similar things. They will have to cut out scenes to make the movie ready for release when this passes. It will be interesting to see what happens. This is an article that talks about the movies and what is happening. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2020-03-12/coronavirus-movies-cancelled-postponed?_amp=true

Re-editing post-delay schedule

This weekend we were planning on reshooting for our film. But that has been put on hold due to the outbreak of covid-19. It has recently been upgraded to a pandemic. We would be filming this weekend, however we couldn’t rent a camera. And now we will have to push our reshooting back to the week we get back. We can’t really do anything pertaining to the movie right now, other than edit more than we already have. But the issue with that is that we can’t meet up to do it. I really hope we will have time to reshoot before we need to turn this project in, but in the situation that we can’t, we will need to turn in what we have. While we can make it better, there is nothing we can really do. We can film the weekend we get back in school, and we can use the plan we were going to do before this.  I don’t know if we will be able to do any of this. But if we do get back by March 30th like we were supposed to, we will record and edit on the 3rd through the 6th. We will reshoot on either the 6th or the 7th. Then Kyle will have to edit to make is as good as possible before the 7th. We don’t need to add too much. But we do need to improve a few scenes. I really hope we get back by that date so we can reshoot, but if we can’t, we will just have to turn in what we have. I hope we can but I don’t know if we will be able to. This is very unfortunate timing for something like this. But we will have to persevere.

Reshooting Plan

This week we plan on reshooting scenes for our final project. We haven’t been able to do so since peer reviewing due to conflicting plans. This is because Kyle and I had a math competition on Saturday, and Kyle was not going to be able to film on Sunday. We also felt that filming on just Friday wasn’t going to give us enough time. As we have discussed and we will film this weekend. We need to redo some scenes to make our story more clear. This was suggested to us by our peer reviewer. Luckily most of the scenes we need will be indoors, at my house. This will prevent us from needing to make backup plans incase it rains. One scene we will need to redo will be the killing scene. We also need better character development. This is because in the original draft, the main character’s reason for killing is unclear. We will need to stress the reasons that drive him to the point of committing murder. We also will need to incorporate more shots, and editing techniques. So that will be a main focus this weekend.  Currently our plan is to film on Saturday, with the whole group. Then if we need more after that, Kyle and I will meet on Saturday and film more. I think we will also need to focus more on using the tripod more effectively. We have been using it, but not for every scene, and it’s resulted in some shaky camera work. I think this may be our last filming session of the project.

Peer Review

This Tuesday we did peer reviews of our movies to this date. While we were able to put together a 1:39 video, we did not have time to add the titles. So we are confident we can be at around the correct time with the title scenes added. We graded a group who did their project on cannibal couple. The couple doesn’t get along well, other than when they’re eating. Overall their video was good. They had good titles, and good shots. There were some issues where some scenes needed to be shorter. The lighting also wasn’t great at times, because some titles blended into the background. Also, my group had trouble finding the exact story while watching, and were confused. However we were able to eventually figure it out. While we were doing that our’s was getting reviewed. One of our peers watched our video, and liked it. His main criticisms were that we didn’t have titles, the story was a little hard to follow, and the camera was a little shaky at times. We are going to take these criticisms to make our final video as good as it can be. We are going to reshoot soon. I definitely agree with those issues he had as well. Another thing we need to make sure we do while reshooting is making sure we have a greater variety of camera angles. In the video we have now we only incorporate a few editing techniques and angles, and we need more. I think with these criticisms we have what we need to make a great final project.

Editing our film

This week, we had another recording session for our film. After this we were much happier with our ability to make a final product. With this we went into choosing clips. As we expected, there were some bad clips from our first session of filming. We wanted to start editing at school on Wednesday, but we had technical difficulties. We knew we would have to edit a lot at school on Friday, and if not then, then Kyle would have to do the editing at home. Unfortunately when we got there on Friday,  the computer wasn't working again. So we decided to film on Friday after school. However only me and Kyle could do it. So after the re-shooting, Kyle went home and started working. I felt bad for Kyle, because he had to edit it by himself. He needed to get it done before our peer editing on Tuesday, of the next week though. He was a little rushed because his computer at home kept crashing. He had a lot of work to do, but he did it. However he couldn't put in the titles because it was too late. I'm excited to see  the final product. Though this may be what we have now, it's far from the final version of the project. I think this version will be good though. We are diffidently on track with the schedule we made. I think it will turn out good in the end.
